When I started writing fanfic, I read several articles about how to market fanfic. One of the more frequent pieces of advice was to write one character/pairing exclusively if you're just starting out. I broke that rule. Sometimes I wonder if it did affect my readership. On the one hand, I think I'd go nuts if I wrote nothing but Luna or H/L, but I worry about disappointing people who friended me or put me on alert on the basis of my MWPP fic. Does it bother you if an author writes a variety of characters or pairings?

some writer's brand names are based on the AU's they write. Their's thanfiction's "Dumbledore's Army" stories. Granted they're not completely AU, but obviously he wrote them with his own take on some of the characters. There is also merfilly's "happy universe" where at some point in the DC canon universe she decided she'd had enough and began to create a divergent path. I guess it all depends on what you'd like to do though really. While I do enjoy writing many characters I am starting to realize more and more that I'm much better at some characters than others. (I still have no idea how to write Harry, for instance).
