So, my completely awesome smutty_claus gift has been posted. It is awesome and a much better gift than I deserve. More importantly, it has inspired me to do a sequel to my own Cedric/Luna story. It will probably get me thrown out of my corner of fandom. I'm so sick of St. Luna who is never wrong and is immune to Dementors/Horcruxes/having normal human emptions that I'm trying my hand at a bit of darkfic. Shouldn't be too long, maybe three parts, depending.

For some strange reason, I feel the urge to sign up for another  fest, but I have no idea what. I'm not a big fan of fests where the sign up form asks you to include listobjects/object and a place the author has to include in the fic. My pet characters are Cedric and Luna, but they don't have their own fests. Suggestions?I might do takingitinturns if I can come up with a sign up form that isn't obnoxious. Somehow I don't think "I hate canon H/G but I think their OOTP incarnations had tremendous pottential and so did the whole diary incident" would go over well.

My exchange fics are all done. I always try to get them in as early as possible. Last year I was sick/hospitalized and didn't write anything for six weeks.I'm always scared something like that will happen again and I'll be forced to drop out.

I have just discovered Leverage, and it's awesome. I haven't laughed and squeed this hard since I read Sorcerer's Stone eight years ago. Two new fandoms in a week! Harry Potter who?

Finally got a workable plot bunny for SC. Hope my recipient likes it. The story will either go over really well or I'm going to be run out of fandom on a rail. *panics*

On a lighter note, rs_games and ownficfest have begun posting.

Got a little over 2k done on my Smutty Claus story. If this keeps up, I should be done by the end of the week. Almost makes up for the Frankenstein's monster of an H/G story imploding.

The H/G novella has hit 20k. I'm beginning to see a light at the end of this tunnel. I feel like I'm redeeming myself somewhat for HBB. I was going to submit this to Harry Potter Bang, but now I'm not so sure. On the one hand, I've always wanted a fic illustrated. On the other, I'm worried about getting lost in the shuffle and at least with HBB I had a sense of community that made me feel awful for failing to finish. I don't get that here.

Also fuzzy about how to label and promote it. It's not gen, but anyone looking for an H/G romance will be disappointed. The story hear is Harry vs. Tom. Did I mention it's AU and Harry spends most of the story behaving like a jackass because Tom is corrupting him without his knowledge. What have I done?

Well, I signed up for Smutty Claus. That was one fest I said I'd never do because I'm not much of a smut writer. I do write smut. It's just something that's more difficult than gen. But in the past year, I've written so many things outside of my comfort zone. Slash. Next gen. Next gen slash. Darkfic. Even Harry/Ginny. What's one more bit of smut? The novella is ahead of schedule and GBB is quiet, so I have a little free time.

I am pretty sure the mod is about to kill me, though, because I've edited the sign up so many times. Actually omitted Harry/Luna because I am so pick and the Perfect!Luna characterization so prevalent in that subfandom gives me a headache. I had a big long list of Dos and Dont's for that pairing before I decided pickiness and exchanges don't mix. I'm pretty sure I forgot some things (like that I can write H/L) but I've edited enough. Kind of curious to see what I'm assigned.  I said I'd write H/G mostly because I'm sleeping, eating, and breathing it with the novella. I don't ship it in the conventional sense, but I've grown to love writing it.
Title: Ever After
Pairing: Harry/Ginny
Words 100
Rating: PG
Summary: Ginny will get her happy ending.

Ginny bites her lip until she draws blood. She won't think about the pain. If she does, she might scream. She won't give Carrow the satisfaction. She thinks of Harry, their future. They will live at Grimmauld Place. Their children will learn to play Quidditch and always have new robes. Harry will love her and she him. They will be happy.

The pain stops. Carrow moves to his next victim, unsatisfied. Ginny allows herself an inward smile of satisfaction. He won't break her. Ever. She will get her happy ending. She just has to survive long enough to see it.

Pairing: Percy/Hermione
Rating: Hard PG-13 for wartime violence and some strong language

Never Surrender )

Title: Wedding Bells
Words: 100
Rating/Warnings: PG
Summary: Ginny is bored out of her skull at Hermione's wedding reception. Inspired by the "gatecrashing" prompt at [profile] dg_ldws.

When Ginny marries, she's going to elope. It's a bit of a moot point now, but there's no way she's going to subject herself to another round of stale cake and staler conversation. If she wasn't Hermione's maid of honor, she would have left the Dullest Reception on Earth before now.

Malfoy appears from nowhere to stand beside her. Her eyes narrow. "You weren't invited."

"Didn't have anything better to do. Looks like you could use some excitement."

"Not your problem." Honestly, one drunken snog, and boys thought they owned you.

He smiles, genuinely for once. "Maybe it should be."
Title: In Dreams

Author's Note: Written for the "heat" challenge at hpgw100. [personal profile] flyingcarpet, you said I should write them more often. Your wish is my command.

I seemed to have talked myself into organizing a Ginny Big Bang. I have no idea how this happened, but it looks like I'll be taking on my first ever modding post. No one else wants to do it. I know a couple of people on my flist/reading list have experience running Big Bangs, so tips are appreciated.
Title: My Father Before Me
Characters: Teddy Lupin, Cedric Diggory
Genre: Drama, AU
Word count: 8900

I'm probably the last person who should be asking this (have no organizational skills whatsoever) but would there be any interest in a Ginny (or Weasleys in general if there's not enough interest in Ginny by herself) Big Bang fest? Hermione, Sirius, Snape and the next gen have Big Bangs, why not Ginny?

I'm now up to 15,000 words on my Hermione Big Bang fic. On one hand, yay! It is now officially the longest fic I've ever written. On the other hand, I've got SO much to do that I sort of doubt I'll finish in time. Someone needs to write an essay on how tell if your idea is going to spawn a proper novel BEFORE you write it. At least I'll be able to make 20,000 words before deadline. That ought to count for something.

So what else have I got planned?

-- Clean up my [profile] springtime_gen fic for posting here and at other sites. I may change some details to tie it into another fic I wrote but I haven't decided.
-- A short, fluffy Neville/Ginny piece set during PS/SS. This is my top priority after HBB fic.
-- A series of short H/G pieces that provide alternate versions of the kiss, the breakup, and the birthday present scene. I found these scenes problematic in canon, and I'd like to tweak it so it's more palatable to me personally while still keeping the H/G.
-- A much longer AU where Ginny is kidnapped in DH instead of Luna
-- A longish one-shot where Tom is sent to live with Slughorn for a summer because the Germans are bombing London.
--A canon compliant Cedric-Fleur friendship piece. Every time I put these two together in a scene, they almost derail the fic with their chemistry.
-- A sequel to my Cedric/Luna story. Someday.

I just read the most awesome fic over at [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen: The Friar's Calling. Read it. You'll be glad you did. Below are the summary and the rec I did for another site.

Story Summary: Long before the Statute of Secrecy, when Kings still sought counsel from wizards and scholars debated magic at the great centres of learning, England seethed as her nobles struggled to check the power of the King – and one young friar found his new path taking an unexpected turn.
Why you think this story should be read: I’ve never read a historical HP fic set in the High Middle Ages before, and I think this would be hard to top. Religion, history, and magic are deftly interwoven. Brother Thomas’ (later the Fat Friar) evolving attitude toward magic still captures the spirit of the times while feeling very true to HP. The OCs (and Sir Cadogan) are a delight with special mention going to the charming and sympathetic Leonius Malfoy.

I have 10,239 words of my Hermione Big Bang fic done, which is slightly more than half the minimum. I hope I can finish the rough draft by July 3. I want that art!
