Oh, I don't see why you couldn't use that basic idea. There are only so many ways to (convincingly) keep Cedric alive, after all, and I'm sure yours would go in a different direction.
And I am ALWAYS happy to encourage more Cedric fiction. I may write it, but because I like to read it (and reading my own gets boring, you know!). I've found that in fandoms where somebody is writing enough of what I want to read, I don't tend to write much myself (like X-Files, or now [some] Twilight and even, to some degree, Firefly).
